Profepa closing company by improper handling of hazardous waste, in Tlaxcala

Delegation staff PROFEPA in the state made an inspection visit to a company dedicated to chrome plating and machining of metal parts, during which it was found that the industry incurs various irregularities of environmental regulations in the management of dangerous residues.
Among the anomalies are the following: the company is not registered with the SEMARNAT as a generator of hazardous waste; mix hazardous waste with non-hazardous; no log record thereof; and stores hazardous waste in areas that lack the infrastructure and security conditions for the environmentally safe storage of the same.
It also lacks storage; does not identify the containers of hazardous waste; waste generated and stored for more than six months.
Grinding sludges, chrome sludges, used lubricating oil, spent solutions of chromium metal packaging capacity of 50 Kg containing chromium trioxide, fiberglass, plastic film: Therefore, the following hazardous wastes ensured during the visit dusters and waste contaminated with chromium, in an estimated total of 3 cubic meters volume.
The seizure was carried out so that the enterprise carries on management through authorized by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) companies.
Also, the PROFEPA initiated administrative proceedings against that company and imposed as a security measure the temporary partial closing on the basis of Article 170 Ia fraction of the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection, for contravening the provisions of the Act General on the Prevention and Management of Waste.
These actions are part of the activities carried out by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection in the municipalities of influence of the watershed of Atoyac-Za Huapan.
