The director of Protection Against Health Risks of the Ministry of Health, Alexander Tenorio Barrientos, reported that in the course of 2015 have been collected 5000 109 kilos of expired drugs through the containers are placed in the state, through collaboration agreement with the National Waste Management System Packaging and Drugs (Singrem) AC
He explained that 82 containers are placed in pharmacies, schools and offices in the municipalities of Querétaro, Corregidora, San Juan del Rio, Cadereyta and Pedro Escobedo.
Tenorio Barrientos emphasized that the containers have created greater awareness among the population, as the expired drugs are chemicals that are hazardous waste if discarded in the trash or down the drain.
"The most important thing is to have the cooperation of the citizens, because they are the major stakeholders that these drugs are thrown out there, but responsibly take the appropriate containers and that they are satisfied that there are will give appropriate treatment, "he said.
In an interview, he confirmed that the program 'Collection of expired drugs in the state of Queretaro' started in 2010, noting that this year they intended to place in the state's 40 containers; however, to date, it has not defined Singrem.
"I think it has been a successful program and I think we will have to improve its dissemination. We will get in touch with the company, must sign an agreement with the company because they are hazardous waste and fall within the collection route, "he added.
