The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), in coordination with the National Water Commission (Conagua), closed 27 industries established in Atoyac River Basin to address environmental degradation of the tributary.
Reliance said in a statement that the above is the result of 628 visits made by both federal agencies in so far this year.
Of these visits, 514 were made by Profepa on hazardous waste, of which 261 industries and 253 companies in Tlaxcala and Puebla were made.
The closures resulting from the inspection visits were for polluting discharges and improper handling of hazardous waste, of these, 22 are partial temporal five full time.
In addition, as part of these actions were secured a precautionary 89.4 cubic meters of hazardous waste and four companies have been fined for 2.138 million pesos.
Profepa explained that inspection visits on hazardous waste, major irregularities that led to closing were for breaking with the provisions of the General Law for Prevention and Integrated Waste Management and its regulations.
Moreover, these companies were sanctioned for not displaying self-categorization as a generator of hazardous waste to the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and had no record log of hazardous waste.
Also for storing hazardous waste without adequate security measures and; not check the final destination of hazardous waste at an authorized site.
Added to this, Profepa issued 60 recommendations in 38 municipalities of Tlaxcala and Puebla 22 to take the necessary measures to comply with their environmental obligations, particularly regarding wastewater discharge.
In turn, the Conagua has made 158 visits to verify that the discharge of the companies comply with the provisions of the environmental regulations, which imposed fines in the amount of five million pesos 531.146.
On 25 February, the head of Profepa, Guillermo Haro Belchez reported on the actions to take to abate the environmental degradation of tributary that 62.8 tons of total suspended solids spilled daily; 14.7 tons of organic matter and 0.14 tons per day of heavy metals.
