We need to establish a regional focal point for the management of hazardous waste, with information on best practices, technologies and knowledge, said Gillian Guthrie, a senior official of the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change this island.

Before delegates of the Government and Inter-American Development Bank, stressed that the region needs also helps in building knowledge for mitigation or removal of contaminated sites, and the implementation of a set of economic instruments based on the market recovery and recycling.

The specialist recommended strengthening the physical infrastructure of Jamaica nationwide for temporary storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous waste categories.

During the recent completion of the Solid Waste Management Conference: A National Imperative Development, the Director of the Management Unit of Medical Health Ministry, Navarine Hylton Waste, also urged to take action on the political import of these substances .
