Profepa intercepts 261.44 tons of waste and hazardous substances
Under the Third National Operating Carreteros 2014 Points and Customs Terrestrial, Maritime and Airport Indoor country, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) intercepted a shipment of 261.44 tons of waste and hazardous substances that were transported without proper permits required by law.
Through a statement, the agency said in a joint action with elements of the Department of National Defense (Department of Defense), Navy (Semar), Customs and Federal Police reviews on 5000 359 cargoes suspected materials were achieved and hazardous waste regulated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) goods.
Of these charges, 4000 850 corresponded to revisions in road points in maritime Customs 468, 189 and four land customs in airport customs.
After the raid, of 261.44 tons detected, only 2.17 is assured. It was also one arrest and was made available to the Federal Public Ministry by inadequate transportation of waste and 12 minutes of inspection and five circumstances arose.
Notably Profepa considered a hazardous waste if it appears in the lists contained in the Mexican NOM-052-SEMARNAT-2005 Official Statement and has some feature such as corrosivity, reactivity, flammability and toxicity, as well as packaging, containers, packaging and flooring they have been contaminated.
The Federal Criminal Code, Article 414 thereof, dictates that sentence of one to nine years in prison and 300-3000 day fine who unlawfully engaging in the production, storage and traffic hazardous substances will be imposed.
